Renee

Hi, my name is Renee Dougherty. I am a sign language interpreter and instructor. I have been working with American sign language for 15 years. I am passionate about bringing the world of sign language to children. My love for the language began when I took a beginning ASL class with my sister after my first daughter was born. After a few more classes I began teaching art and gym to Deaf children at a residential school. After the birth of my second daughter, I began interpreting in an educational setting. From there I was accepted into a Community Interpreter Training program and began my career as an American Sign Language Interpreter. I worked as a freelance interpreter for many years as we welcomed my third child, a son, into the family. I currently work as a video relay interpreter and I do some freelance interpreting as well. I have recently decided to share my passion by teaching sign language. I created presentations for scouts and developed an after school club curriculum for elementary school students. I hold an Intermediate interpreting license in Illinois and I am an Independant Certified Instructor with the Baby Signs program. Through the program I have also received certification in Early Childhood Education training enabling me to bring Baby Signs to Day Care and Pre-schools.
